Installing the desktop app for meeting recording
How to download and set up the QuillAI desktop app on Windows and macOS: sign-in, microphone and screen recording permissions.
The desktop app listens to the meeting's system audio and to your microphone at the same time — no bot joins the call, everything runs in the background on your own computer.
Installation
Download the app
Open the "Meetings" section in the app and click the download button for your OS — Windows or macOS (separate builds exist for Apple Silicon and Intel).
Sign in with the same account
On first launch the app will ask you to sign in — use the same account as your web version. That way your meeting recordings show up in your workspace right away.
Allow microphone access
The app needs microphone access to capture your side of the conversation. Confirm the system prompt when it appears. On macOS, if access was accidentally denied, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and turn QuillAI on manually.
Allow screen recording (macOS only)
The meeting's system audio — the other participants' voices — is technically captured through the "Screen Recording" permission on macOS: that's a requirement of the OS itself, no video is ever recorded or saved. Confirm the prompt, or enable it manually: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. You may need to restart the app after enabling it.
Start your meeting
Open Zoom, Google Meet, or another video call service — recording starts by itself as soon as the app notices the meeting has begun.
Windows is simpler
On Windows, system audio is available without a separate permission — the OS allows app-audio capture out of the box. You'll only need to confirm microphone access.
If you're not at your computer
The desktop app only runs on a computer — you can't record meetings with it on a phone. If you opened the download page on your phone, the "Copy link" button saves the address so you can send it to yourself and open it on your computer later.
After your first successful recording, the "Meetings" section shows a "Desktop connected" badge — confirmation that installation and sign-in went through correctly and the app recognizes your account.
If something didn't work
The "Meeting recording troubleshooting" article covers the common causes and fixes — from a mismatched account to missing permissions.
