Export and public links

How to download a transcript as TXT, DOCX, SRT, or VTT, and how to share a public link to a recording — and turn access off again.

Export formats

A finished transcript can be downloaded in several formats: TXT — a plain text file, DOCX — a Word document for further editing, PDF, and SRT and VTT — subtitle formats for video. The "Export" button sits in the top bar of an open recording.

1

Open the recording

Go to a finished transcript from the recordings list.

2

Click "Export"

The button sits in the top bar above the transcript text.

3

Pick a format

Choose TXT, PDF, DOCX, SRT, or VTT — the file downloads right away.

Which format for what

TXT is handy for quickly pasting text anywhere. DOCX is useful if you plan to keep editing the document in Word or Google Docs. SRT and VTT are for adding subtitles in a video editor or on a video hosting platform — timestamps for each line are already baked in.

The "Share" button creates a public link to the transcript. Anyone with the link can view the text, copy it, download the file, and ask the AI chat questions about that recording — without signing in. AI conversations on the public page aren't saved and have no connection to your own chats.

Turning it off

The same "Share" dialog has a "Turn off public access" button — once you click it, the link stops working immediately, and the page tells visitors the recording wasn't found or access was closed by the owner. You can turn public access back on at any time — a new link is generated.

An exported file isn't tied to the recipient's account — it can be forwarded, printed, or uploaded to another service without restriction. And if you re-enable a public link after turning it off, the old link — even if someone saved it — won't work anymore.

The "Export" and "Share" buttons sit right next to each other on the panel, so it's easy to mix them up: "Export" downloads a file to your device, while "Share" creates a link for other people. Anyone can open a public link — the recipient doesn't need a QuillAI account.

Good to know

A public link isn't indexed by search engines and doesn't appear in any public listing — only people you send it to will know it exists.
